FootballPeseiro Given Reported Ultimatum to Accept Super Eagles Pay Cut or Leave, NFF Reveals His Wage
- Jose Peseiro has been told to accept a pay cut if he wants to continue as Super Eagles coach
- The NFF has proposed a reduction in his earnings despite owing the coach for some months
- Peseiro’s contract as Nigeria's coach lapsed at the end of July and he is yet to sign a renewal
The Nigeria Football Federation has reportedly given a three-day ultimatum to Jose Peseiro to accept a cut on his salary if he wants to continue as the Super Eagles coach.
The Portuguese manager's contract with the NFF lapsed on July 31 and he is yet to sign a contract renewal due to a proposed pay cut in his $70,000 per month salary.
Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa, the chairman of the NFF's Technical and Development Committee, revealed the current situation ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.
Inuwa told Complete Sports that his portfolio had given Peseiro three days to respond to the proposed pay cut or the NFF would 'disengage him finally'.
"We will allow him to continue if he accepts a reduction in his $70,000 monthly salary and other conditions of service. If he turns down our proposal, we will consider appointing a coach to oversee the dead rubber game against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo, then we start to search for a new substantive coach [for whom] the NFF can afford to pay his salary."
Further reports have claimed the NFF currently owes the tactician for a number of months but have still told him to accept the pay cut or bid farewell to the job.
