  • Manchester City striker Erling Haaland unsurprisingly won big at the PFA Awards last night
  • Bukayo Saka picked the Young Player of the Year award after hitting double digits in goals and assists
  • Nigerian superstar Davido entertained the audience with a rendition of his viral song Unavailable

Nigerian export music Afrobeat continues to gain more global recognition after Davido performed at the Professional Footballers' Association Awards last night.

The event rewards outstanding players from the 2022/23 season, and there were little surprises with Erling Haaland and Bukayo Saka picking up the major men's awards.

Haaland scored 36 league goals, shattering the records both in the 38 and 42 games season format in his first year in English football, while Saka hit double digits for both goals and assists.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was named the Fans' Player of the Year, while Lauren James and Rachel Daly picked up the women's awards.

The PFA Team of the Year, voted for by the players, featured five Manchester City and four Arsenal stars, with Harry Kane and Kieran Trippier making up the rest of the XI.

Davido's historic performance at PFA Awards

Davido performed his viral hit song, Unavailable, off his last global album, Timeless, to light up the Lowry Theatre stage in Manchester and entertain the awardees and guests.

According to Intel Region, this makes him the first African artiste to grace the award stage, which held its 50th-anniversary edition last night.

Foden jams to Davido's unavailable

Sports Brief reported that Phil Foden vibed to Davido's Unavailable while jogging the ball during his holiday after the treble-winning season.

The Manchester City star won the last two Young Player of the Year awards but was absent at the gala last night as he would not pick up any gongs.

Chelsea unveil Caicedo with Afrobeat

Sports Brief reported that Chelsea unveiled Moises Caicedo with a Nigerian song from Pheelz and BNXN titled Finesse, and for those who understand, it passed a message.

The song preaches going all out for what you want, even if it means going broke later, and that is what the Blues did. It also connotes not falling in love with who doesn't want you, in the case of Liverpool agreeing on a fee with Brighton despite Caicedo preferring Chelsea.
