- He will play for Jose Mourinho once again after previous spells at Chelsea and Manchester United
Romelu Lukaku touched down in Rome to a warm reception from AS Roma fans ahead of his impending move to the club.
Lukaku is set to seal another season-long deal away from Chelsea, with the deal expected to be completed on Wednesday, August 30.
The Athletic reports that at least 5,000 fans waited at the Ciampino airport for the Belgian to arrive aboard a Gulfstream jet owned and piloted by the club owner, Dan Friedkin, with thousands tracking the flight on FlightRadar.
The move is set to come as a relief for the 30-year-old, who at one point had run out of options. He was on loan at Inter Milan last season but burnt bridges with the club after he started secret negotiations with Juventus.
His Juventus deal also collapsed after the club's fans warned him against going to Turin. Lukaku was similarly set on leaving Chelsea despite Mauricio Pochettino extending an olive branch last week.
Reunion with Jose Mourinho
He is now set to play for Jose Mourinho for the third time in his career after previous spells at Chelsea and Manchester United. Roma needed a striker desperately after Tammy Abraham sustained a serious injury before the end of last season.
The club has since roped in Sardar Azmoun from Bayer Leverkusen. The Iranian will now team up with Lukaku and Andrea Bellotii, who has been leading the line so far for Mourinho.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Chelsea will receive around 5 million euros as loan fees.
Roma captain questions Lukaku's signing
Sports Brief has also reported that AS Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini was asked about Romelu Lukaku's season-long loan move to the club, and his response appears to question the necessity of the transfer.

FootballLukaku and Chelsea agreed to part ways this season after having a chaotic relationship since the striker re-signed for the Blues from Inter Milan in 2021.
He spent last season on loan at San Siro and looked set to return permanently, but his flirting with Juventus and ghosting calls from the board and former teammates ended the move.
