Football“Didn’t Win It at Spurs”: Fans Taunt Pochettino After Gaffer Outlines Treble Plans at Chelsea
- Mauricio Pochettino aimed a sly dig at his former club Tottenham as he outlined his plans for Chelsea
- The Argentine boldly declared he wanted to win the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup
- Chelsea claimed their first win of the new season with a 3-0 win over Luton Town on Friday, August 25
Mauricio Pochettino has subtly taunted Tottenham fans by claiming he wants to “win every competition” with Chelsea.
The gaffer’s comments were made ahead of Chelsea’s clash against AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup second round on Wednesday, August 30.
Speaking ahead of the game, Pochettino was asked about his past comments when he was Tottenham manager.
As cited on BBC, at the time, the Argentine tactician had claimed Tottenham did not need an FA Cup win, ahead of a semi-final clash against Manchester United back in 2018.
Asked about the comments, Pochettino said he “would not repeat the same mistake again”.
"I want to win the Carabao Cup, I want to win the FA Cup, I want to win the Premier League, then we see what happens after," the 51-year old said as quoted on Football London.
"All of the competitions are important for Chelsea. The circumstances aren't the best at the moment because we have many injuries.”
Chelsea’s long list of injured players
Despite Pochettino’s ambitious plans for the season, he has to deal with a string of injuries from key players.
Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Christopher Nkunku and more recently, Carney Chukwuemeka are all sidelined with injury, and it is unlikely the club will invest too heavily before the close of the summer transfer window.
Reacting to Pochettino’s punchline during the Tuesday presser, some fans could not help but aim a dig at the manager for failing to win silverware with Tottenham, despite having a potent squad at the time.

"And will end up Winning Nothing"
Despite not winning anything at Tottenham, Pochettino found a winning formula at his next club PSG where he won the Ligue 1 title in 2021-22 and two domestic French honours.
Fred confirms United’s next signing
Sports Brief also reported on how former Manchester United midfielder Fred appeared to confirm the club’s next signing.
In his introductory press conference at Istanbul, Fred, who joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the summer, bid farewell to the club’s goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
United signed Andre Onana in the summer, but are looking for a second-choice goalkeeper to act as an understudy to the Cameroon international.
