FootballReal Madrid Set for Another Formation Change Following Injury to Vinicius Jr
- Carlo Ancelotti recently tweaked his team’s formation to accommodate Jude Bellingham
- Real Madrid players have so far struggled to adjust to Ancelotti’s new formation
- The Italian coach is reportedly set to implement another formation change
The injury suffered by Vinicuis Jr against Celta Vigo at the Abanca Balaidos has recently dominated the headlines for a number of reasons, including the ripple effect it is set to have on the current Real Madrid set-up.
Having been closely associated with the 4-3-3 formation for a significant portion of the past decade in football, Carlo Ancelotti's team found themselves compelled to transition to a 4-4-2 (diamond) setup after securing the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.
Despite Real Madrid still struggling to adapt to the newly imposed formation, reports from Football Espana have stated the club’s coaching staff are considering altering their shape following an injury to Vinicius.
Real Madrid set for formation switch
Real Madrid entered into the 2023/24 season visibly thin in attack following the departure of four attackers, including captain Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio.
The club, who were linked all summer with the signing of Kylian Mbappe, have compensated for their shortage in attack with the array of midfield talent they possess and have had to play a midfield led by the young Bellingham.
With the extent of the Brazilian player's injury now confirmed, the team's available attacking choices have dwindled to Rodrygo, Brahim Diaz, and Joselu Marto.
Consequently, reports from Diario AS suggest that Ancelotti is currently contemplating a tactical reshuffle in the upcoming weeks, all while taking into account the absence of Vinicius.
Given that Vinicius is set to be on the treatment table till mid-October, the Italian gaffer could deploy either Valverde or Bellingham as an auxiliary attacker to compensate for his team’s lack of depth in attack.
