  • Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami have been ranked lowly on the new World Club Rankings, even below some football clubs on the African continent
  • Nigerian club Enyimba are way ahead of the Florida-based club
  • Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa are also ahead of the squad, which is captained by FIFA World Cup winner Messi

The biggest football clubs around the world have been ranked, with Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami placed quite low on the list.

Nigerian Professional Football League club Enyimba and PSL outfit Kaizer Chiefs are way ahead of the squad, which is captained by the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Manchester City of England are ranked in the number one position, just ahead of Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich in second position, while La Liga giants Real Madrid are third.

Making up the rest of the top five are Italian clubs Napoli and Inter Milan, both ranked in fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Enyimba, who are out of the CAF Champions League, are ranked in the 504th position, while South African outfit Kaizer Chiefs are in the 691st position.

Lionel Messi has been incredible for Inter Miami since his move to the US club this summer, leading them to the Leagues Cup title.

However, they are ranked in the 1,538th position despite moving up 157 places as of August 27, 2023, as per Football Databases.

Messi among most famous athletes

Meanwhile, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Messi secured the seventh position among the most famous icons in sports history.

Among them are the iconic figures from Argentina and Brazil, Diego Maradona and Pele, in that order. Messi's perennial competitor, Cristiano Ronaldo, failed to secure a position within the top ten list.

The Barcelona legend's status as the greatest player of all time has gained widespread recognition, particularly after solidifying his legacy with the historic FIFA World Cup victory with Argentina in 2022.

Comparing Saudi League with MLS

Sports Brief also reported that since Ronaldo moved to the Middle East in December 2022, the Gulf nation has continued to disrupt the global football transfer market.

With the rise to prominence of the Saudi Pro League, many have compared the SPL to the MLS, as the eternal debate between Messi and his Portuguese rival keeps raging.

With the Argentine's brilliance continuing to captivate audiences in the US and abroad, the exodus of Europe's elite to the Middle East has also seen the Saudi league rise.
