  • The defender was reportedly in the company of his younger brother and another friend
  • Lascelles was on the bench during Newcastle's trip to the Etihad Stadium last weekend

Newcastle United skipper, Jamaal Lascelles, has reportedly been left with a damaged ear after he was attacked by unknown assailants recently.

It is understood the Premier League defender was punched and pelted with stones in a shocking street brawl, with the thugs allegedly threatening to shoot him.

According to The Sun, the gang also injured his brother and their friend was left unconscious after the attack. The incident is understood to have happened after the trio left the Chinawhite club in Newcastle.

The brawl is said to have been sparked when a man elbowed Lascelles's 19-year-old brother in the throat. The Newcastle ace went on to intervene by shoving the man away before a fight erupted.

"There was blood coming out of his brother’s mouth," a source divulged to The Times. "One of Lascelles’ group was on the ground and then got kicked in the face and was knocked out cold... for more than ten minutes."

Newcastle United's disastrous run

The incident happened just hours after Newcastle United's defeat against reigning EPL champions, Manchester City, at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

Lascelles was an unused substitute during the encounter, with Juian Alvarez emerging as City's hero after he scored the only goal separating the two teams.

The Magpies were hoping to bounce back to winning ways this weekend when they came up against Liverpool, only to record their second successive defeat.

The Reds stunned the Eddie Howe-tutored side 2-1 at St. James Park, with Darwin Nunez coming off the bench to score a brace for the Merseysiders.

Van Dijk red-carded vs Newcastle

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on the Reds giving themselves a mountain to climb on August 27 after going 1-0 and one man down against a rejuvenated Newcastle in the space of two minutes.

Liverpool were the marginal favourites going into the EPL clash but it was always going to be an uphill task against a Magpies side transformed by the recent takeover of the PIF-led consortium.
