Ranking the top 10 best Brazilian football strikers of all-time
FootballLuis Suarez Hilariously Ensures Opponent Gets Yellow Card in Brazil League
- Luis Suarez employed his characteristic 'dark arts' to get an opposing player yellow-carded
- The striker has new victims in South America after years of tormenting defenders in Europe
- Suarez remains a divisive football figure despite his impressive records and achievements
Luis Suarez needs no re-introduction. He is one of the few strikers whose reputation precedes him whenever his name comes up in a debate.
Whether it is his goal-scoring prowess or ability to drive opponents (read Ghanaians) crazy, Suarez will go down as one of the most divisive strikers of this generation.
The Uruguayan has never had a silent game. When he is not scoring goals and running off to celebrate, he is always taunting a defender or arguing with the referee or - you know - clearing balls on the line with his hand.
When it comes to the dark arts of football, he sometimes makes Sergio Ramos look like a novice in the trade. And for you to make Ramos of all people look bad, you must be doing something right or extremely wrong, depending on who you ask.
Even at 36 years of age, the former Barcelona striker usually needs no second invitation to be petulant and throw tantrums. His latest opponent seemingly never got the memo.
A Brazilian top flight game between Cruzeiro and Suarez's Gremio on August 28 afforded the legendary striker another opportunity to show his uncanny nature - but not before he was taught a lesson of his own.
How Suarez got opponent booked in Brazil
The former Liverpool star had put his side ahead in the 29th minute. On the stroke of half-time, he was bundled over near the halfway line, with his boot coming off slightly.
Eager to get a decision from the referee, he took off the boot completely as he demonstrated to the officials that he had been fouled.
Cruzeiro defender, Marlon Xavier, took his cue from Suarez removing his boot and decided to 'help' him - by throwing the boot off the pitch. He was obviously reading from the script of: 'If you want to do something, why not just do it well?'
Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer: Is CR7 leaving Manchester United and which clubs are likely to acquire him?
FootballBut perhaps, rather surprisingly, he did not bank on awakening the striker's 'spirits'.
The Gremio star, who was all this time still on turf, stood up like the possessed pigs in the Gospel and made a beeline for the referee.
He pointed the referee to Marlon the way a young child would point out someone who had offended him to his/her parent. All the young child wants is justice and Suarez got his in the form of the left-back getting booked.
He might have gotten the verdict he wanted, but Marlon temporarily showed him that he as well can play the long game. Or, as Chandler Bing would say in the popular sitcom Friends, 'The messers become the messees!'
Never change, El Pistolero!
Suarez once considered retirement
Sports Brief previously reported on former Liverpool striker, Suarez considering calling it quits on his football career, according to stunning new reports.
Suarez, who currently plays for Gremio in Brazil's top flight league, is reportedly pondering his future in the sport due to the 'constant pain' his knee causes.
