The former Bafana captain recently spoke about Khumalo's skills as a player, comparing him with the likes of a Brazilian legend.

As noted by iDiski Times, Radebe said that Khumalo was up there with some of the global superstars of the game.

"Doctor Khumalo was as good as people like Romario of Brazil," the former Leeds United defender said.

He explained that it wasn't because of his skill alone, but also the impact he made in football first, and then his skill.

"He was absolutely amazing. I mean, who doesn’t know Doctor Khumalo? Even the kids today know him," Radebe added.

Khumalo's legendary career

It's been more than 20 years since Theophilus Doctorson Khumalo retired, but the man they call 16V is still an icon to this day.

As noted by Kaizer Chiefs' website, Khumalo played over 400 games for the club, and netted 75 goals. He joined the club as a youngster and made his debut in 1987.

Khumalo also enjoyed a spell in Major League Soccer before returning to the Amakhosi.

He was also a star for the national team, making 50 appearances as a Bafana player. He was instrumental to the side that won the 1996 African Cup of Nations.
