Lionel Messi's son, Thiago, looks to follow in his dad's footsteps after joining Inter Miami's academy.

Messi, who has enjoyed an illustrious football career spanning more than two decades, recently sealed a sensational move to Inter Miami.

The forward's switch to the MLS came following the expiry of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he had spent two years.

Messi had initially been linked with an emotional reunion with Barcelona, while a big-money move to Saudi Arabia had also been mooted.

However, the World Cup winner shunned both moves to complete a free transfer move to the Florida-based club.

Messi's son joins Inter Miami academy

The Sun now reports that Thiago, Messi's eldest child, has joined Inter Miami's academy in a bid to weave his football career.

The 10-year-old has spent all his life watching his father star for Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and now Inter Miami.

However, he has also taken a big step towards becoming a professional footballer, as he will be involved with the MLS club's U12s, per Goal.

Thiago's move comes at a time when his dad is enjoying a fine start to life in Major League Soccer, having already netted 11 times for his new side.

Messi takes over Times Square

Sports Brief earlier reported that football fans gathered at Times Square on Saturday night to watch the Argentine star score on his MLS debut for Inter Miami in the game against the New York Red Bulls.

They went into a frenzy when he entered the match as a substitute in the 60th minute.

Thousands of fans tuned in at the famous tourist spot to see Messi play on the big screen.
