FootballPiers Morgan Leads Criticisms Against Havertz and Arteta After Arsenal Struggle Against Fulham
- Arsenal settled for a 2-2 draw at home to London neighbours Fulham
- The Gunners struggled yet again and weren't in their usual dominant form
- Piers Morgan has laid the blame on Mikel Arteta and new signing Kai Havertz
Renowned British broadcaster and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has laid the blame for the team's struggle on head coach Mikel Arteta and new signing Kai Havertz.
Arsenal were one of the best teams in the league last season, dominated games and led the league table until the 35th week when they succumbed to eventual champions Manchester City.
The expectation was that they would build on last season's progress after they invested over £200m on new signings, particularly Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber.
Timber is out on a long-term ACL injury sustained in the season's first game against Nottingham Forest. Rice is adapting slowly, but Havertz has looked totally out of place.
Morgan slams Arteta and Havertz
Arsenal's London rivals Chelsea cleared out most of their first team stars, and their rivals chose Havertz, whom they signed in a deal expected to close at £67.5m, which received backlash from the fans.
The departure of Granit Xhaka and to accommodate Rice and Havertz has made Arteta tinker with his tactics and pushed Thomas Partey to right-back.
Their struggles in games have brought about severe criticism from their fans, particularly Piers Morgan, who put out a series of tweets during the 2-2 draw against Fulham, as reported by Daily Star.
He summarised his thoughts with two tweets, at half-time and full-time:
"I don’t get Arteta changing our whole system to accommodate Havertz. Just isn’t working. Put Gabriel back in next to Saliba, move White to right back, and stick Partey in the middle where he belongs. And take off Havertz," his half-time thoughts read.

Football"FT: 2-2. Bad result, poor performance, and it’s mainly Arteta’s fault. Tried to be too clever with his tinkering, and we paid the price," he said at the end of the game.
Arsenal face Manchester United next at the Emirates Stadium. Both teams, even though they have picked up significant points this season, are struggling in their gameplay.
Arteta asks for patience
Sports Brief reported that Arteta asked for patience over Havertz as he looks forward to studying the player more and finding a solution that suits him and the team.
This came after fans voiced their displeasure at the player's performance in their first preseason game, where he was deployed as a left-sided number 8 but struggled to make an impact.
