  • Chelsea recorded their first win over the season with a 3-0 victory over Luton Town
  • Raheem Sterling scored twice and assisted Nicolas Jackson for his first Premier League goal
  • English full-back Ben Chilwell captained the team in Reece James' absence

Ben Chilwell played on the wing yet again and captained Chelsea in Reece James' absence and, after the game, made an honest admission about his performance.

Mauricio Pochettino recorded his first Premier League win as Chelsea boss - a comprehensive 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Luton Town at Stamford Bridge.

Raheem Sterling was the star of the night with two goals, both assisted by French full-back Malo Gusto before the Englishman turned provider for Nicolas Jackson to score his first Premier League goal.

Moises Caicedo started the game after his poor debut and delivered a more assured performance alongside Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernandez in midfield.

Chilwell's honest admission

Chilwell continued his role as a left winger with injuries to Mykhailo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku, while Noni Madueke is yet to have match fitness.

He was the lowest-rated Blues player on the night due to a quiet performance and fluffing goal-scoring chances, with his shots getting blocked or passing instead of shooting.

Fans criticised the performance, and the skipper on the night rightly admitted it in his Instagram post after the game.

"Absolute honour to lead the boys out at the bridge💙Ps. Shooting practice for me tomorrow," he wrote on Instagram.

He is expected to continue with his position on the pitch, as well as wearing the armband, until the injured players are back, with Pochettino managing his options due to having nine injuries in the squad.

Pochettino's comments on number 9

Sports Brief reported that Pochettino claimed Chelsea's next striker will wear number 9 amid claims that players RW avoiding the number as it is believed to be cursed.

Romelu Lukaku, who is expected to leave the club before the window shuts, is the current occupant of the shirt and, just like his predecessors, struggled to have an impact.

Poch believes it is just a negative energy around the number that has to be broken by the best forward that signs for the club.
