FootballMolefi Ntseki Backs Brandon Petersen As Amakhosi Fans Call for Khune to Start
- Molefi Ntseki has opted to stick with Brandon Petersen despite his recent costly mistakes
- Petersen is guilty of giving away two cheap goals, which led to Chiefs' two league defeats
- Itumeleng Khune is in his last season with the Amakhosi, but can't break into the starting lineup
Kaizer Chiefs manager, Molefi Ntseki has thrown his support behind Brandon Petersen after the keeper has come under fire in recent games.
Petersen has started every game for the Amakhosi this season, but fans are calling for him to be dropped after two costly errors.
As noted by SuperSport, Petersen was guilty of conceding an easy goal against Mamelodi Sundowns earlier in August, which saw the Brazilians claim all three points.
He was then guilty of giving away another goal, which allowed TS Galaxy to condemn Chiefs to a second defeat of the season. After the two costly errors, fans have called on the club to drop the keeper and bring in veteran Itumeleng Khune.
Khune is in his final season with the club, having signed a contract extension earlier this year, News24 reported.
Ntseki defends Petersen
Reacting to the calls to drop the keeper for the upcoming game against AmaZulu, Ntseki said it wasn’t only the keeper who was guilty of making mistakes recently, Far Post reported.
“The concentration levels were a bit down. It’s not only him that made mistakes that led us to lose the game. I think it’s the whole team,” Ntseki said.
“If you look at it, it’s a series of mistakes that led him to make the last mistake, which we normally look at to be his mistake,” Ntseki added.
Why Khune won't start
Touching on Khune, Ntseki added that four keepers were competing to be the number one, and it wouldn’t make sense to just replace one if they made a mistake.
“When one makes a mistake, you don’t just make changes without zooming into the problem and helping out with the problem,” he explained.

Fans throw objects at Ntseki
Sports Brief also reported on furious Chiefs fans pelting Ntseki with objects after the Amakhosi lost another game in the DStv Premiership this season.
The embattled team were defeated by TS Galaxy after a Brandon Peterson-own goal in the second half, leaving Chiefs without a win in three games in the league this season.
Supporters previously threw objects at Arthur Zwane during his stint in charge of the club.
