FootballRonaldo and Al Nassr Teammates Welcome New Signings Otavio, Laporte in Hilarious Manner
- Saudi Arabian clubs have been on the prowl for Europe’s most prominent stars
- Al-Nassr recently completed the sweep of Otavio Monteiro and Aymeric Laporte
- Players of the Riyadh-based club have welcomed the pair in a hilarious manner
The Saudi Pro League, backed by the country's Public Investment Fund, have consistently swooped in on Europe's finest football stars throughout the year.
A move that began with the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Al-Nassr in the winter transfer window has sparked a series of big-name signings, including Al-Hilal gaining Neymar Junior and Al-Ittihad bringing in Karim Benzema.
The so-called Saudi wave recently saw Al-Nassr complete the signings of FC Porto midfielder, Otavio Monteiro and Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte, both for fees in the region of ₤90 million, according to a report by Goal.
However, it is not the transfer of both players to the Riyadh-based club that made the headlines. Instead, it is the manner in which both players have been welcomed by their new teammates that has generated attention.
Al-Nassr welcomes Otavio, Laporte
In a video posted on social media by @Nfcdiario, both players were given a guard of honour and saw them playfully slapped on the heads by their new teammates.
Otavio and Laporte found this amusing and laughed hysterically at the welcoming. Both players are billed to debut for the club later today in their league fixture away to Al Fateh.
In addition to Ronaldo, Al-Nassr have bolstered their side with Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, Alex Telles, Anderson Talisca, and Seko Fofana.
The Knights of Najd will hope these new signings can inspire them to their first win of the 2023/24 Saudi Pro League season.
Ronaldo praised for Saudi transfers
Sports Brief also reported on Ronaldo being credited for the exodus of numerous stars from European leagues to the Saudi Pro League this year.
His move to Al-Nassr marked a turning point for the country's top flight, leading prominent players to follow the path set by the Portuguese veteran.
