  • The Super Falcons of Nigeria had threatened to boycott their opening match at the Women’s World Cup over unpaid bonuses
  • The girls went ahead to participate in the tournament before crashing out in the Round of 16 against England on penalties
  • Members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives have ordered that the NFF produce proof of payments to the players

A chairperson of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on the financial dispute between the Super Falcons and the Nigeria Football Federation has demanded the payment slips of players from the football body.

Reps member, Blessing Onuh, ordered the NFF to tender an official bank statement of bonuses paid to players and officials of the women’s national team at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.

Onuh made this disclosure while grilling NFF president Ibrahim Gusau, who appeared before the committee on Thursday, August 24.

She demanded that the documents be provided to the House on or before August 30, but Gusau said no funding was released for participation.

The football administrator further explained that $960,000 was released to all 32 teams that qualified for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand for preparation ahead of the tournament.

Gusau said via The Punch:

“We can’t use this money to pay outstanding allowances for the 2019 Women’s World Cup."

According to the NFF boss, members usually get funds from CAF and FIFA, but nothing was received from the Federal Government for its staff and officials.

He added:

“The Confederation of African Football provides $250,000 per annum as subvention funds.”

Onuh accused Gusau of frustrating the investigation into the allegations of non-payment of allowances and entitlements of the Falcons.

I want to settle down - Ordega

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigerian international Francisca Ordega disclosed that she cannot wait to start having babies and begin her own family life.

The Super Falcons star has been with the Nigerian national women’s team since 2010, having also represented the U-17 and U-20 teams.

Ordega was part of the Super Falcon’s squad that reached the second round of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
