FootballBeckham Provides Brilliant Response to Claims That Games Are Scripted for Messi and Inter Miami
- Lionel Messi helped Inter Miami reach another cup final after they beat Cincinnati
- It continued an eight-game winning streak for the club since Messi's debut
- Co-owner David Beckham has responded to claims that the MLS is scripted in favour of the Argentine
David Beckham has provided the smartest response possible to claims that games are fixed for Inter Miami since Lionel Messi's arrival at the club in June.
Messi debuted in the Leagues Cup against Mexican club Cruz Azul and scored a last-minute match-winning freekick to help the team progress to the next round.
He kept up the performances and scored in all seven games as Miami beat Nashville SC in the final on Sunday to claim the Leagues Cup trophy, the first title in the club's history.
Last night saw another round of magic from the Argentina captain, who provided two brilliant assists to Ecuadorian forward Leonardo Campana to help the team secure a 3-3 draw against Cincinnati. They later won on penalties.
Beckham responds to 'script' claims
According to Daily Express, Miami are the worst team in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference League and were without a win in 14 games before Messi turned up. To have won a trophy and be in the final of another certainly looks 'scripted'.
But co-owner Beckham has debunked that while speaking to journalists in the mixed zone after their win over Nashville on Sunday, as quoted by Mirror UK.
“Every time Leo [Messi] scores one of these goals, every time Busi [Sergio Busquets] makes one of these passes, every time Jordi [Alba] makes one of these runs, people say ‘Is it a fix?’” he said.
“It’s the biggest compliment anyone can give these players because it is like a movie.”
“You watch these players play, and it’s emotional because everything about their play is beautiful. Everything about their mannerisms is beautiful, and everything about them as individuals, off the pitch, is beautiful,” he added.

MLS swipes at 'script' conspiracies
Sports Brief reported that the MLS aimed a dig at conspiracy theorists who have been claiming on social media that games are scripted in America to allow Messi to win it all.
The Twitter admin displayed awareness of trends and, before the game went to penalties, claimed mental exhaustion and that he wanted a different script.
