Super Falcons star, Michelle Alozie, has denied that Lionesses star, Lauren James, reached out to her privately after an incident between the two at the recently concluded FIFA Women’s World Cup.
England knocked the West Africana out of the tournament in the Round of 16 in a game that saw James stomp on the Nigerian defender in a moment of frustration.
The striker was initially shown a yellow card for the foul but after a VAR review of the incident, this was upgraded to a red and James was sent off.
The intense moment drew a lot of attention, with James taking to social media afterwards to apologise to the Nigerian defender, her teammates, and football fans.
She wrote:
“All my love and respect to you. I am sorry for what happened. Also, for our England fans and my teammates, playing with and for you is my greatest honour and I promise to learn from my experience.”
Alozie acknowledged the comments, with the Houston Dash star replying to the tweet:
“Abeg, rest. We are playing on the world’s stage. This game is one of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. All respect for Lauren James.”
There were speculations that James had also reached out Alozie personally, but the Super Falcons star denied that was the case.
She said on Channels Television’s Sports Tonight on Monday:
“No, she did not reach out to me, but the apology was on Twitter and Instagram,” likely seeking to put the matter to rest.
