Drawn in lane 7 of Heat 2, the 26-year-old breezed past her rivals to cross the finish line in 12.56s to confirm her place in the final, which is scheduled for Thursday night.

Ackera Nugent of Jamaica was 2nd in 12.60s, while Nadine Visser of the Netherlands finished 3rd in 12.62s.

Amusan started the race on a slow note, with four other athletes ahead in the early stages; however, the world record holder improved and capitalised in the final forty metres and then edged Nugent with a last-gasp effort to win the race.

According to the World Athletics official website, the Nigerian athlete will return to the tracks on Thursday night for the final of the event and will aim to defend her title.

Last year, she posted 12.12 seconds to surpass a world record set by Kendra Harrison’s 12.20 seconds in 2016 on her way to claiming the 100m hurdles title at the World Championships in Oregon, USA.

Kipyegon wins 3rd world title

Sports Brief earlier reported that Faith Kipyegon's historic year continued on Tuesday night as she claimed her third 1500m world title at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. The legendary Kenyan led the race from start to finish.

Prize money is a key part of major athletics events like the World Championships and the Diamond League circuit. Therefore athletes have something to fight for other than pride.

Kipyegon has won three Diamond League titles, two Olympic 1500m titles, and now three world titles in the 1500m.
