Cristiano Ronaldo could reportedly block Mason Greenwood's possible move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

Greenwood is hunting for a new club after Manchester United axed him earlier in the week.

United announced that the star forward will not continue at Old Trafford following a backlash from fans after it was claimed there were plans to integrate the Englishman back into the squad.

According to The Mirror, the Red Devils confirmed that they are working with the embattled forward to find a new career path.

It was previously claimed that the Saudi Pro League could be Greenwood's next destination, with Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq among the clubs he has been linked with.

Ronaldo could block Greenwood's move

However, it has now emerged that Ronaldo could have a hand in blocking the move over a long-running feud between the pair.

The duo are said to be on poor terms after Greenwood once described Ronaldo's career as 'dead'.

Greenwood is said to have used the term while discussing the veteran forward's form while he was playing at Real Madrid.

His comments did not go down well with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, with a source claiming:

"He was really annoyed at what Greenwood said — but he has good reason to be when you consider what Ronaldo has achieved in his career and where Greenwood finds himself."

Fans protest Greenwood's return

Sports Brief reported that United fans protested against Greenwood's return ahead of their 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in their season's opening game.

The protest emanated from reports that the club were prepared to sanction his return, a piece of news that unsettled some female fans and women's team members.

Greenwood has not played for the Manchester club since January 2022.
