Kylian Mbappe continues to divide opinions among fans of Paris Saint-Germain following his surprising decision to send a letter to the French club hierarchy stating his option not to extend his current contract.

The 24-year-old, who was recently restored to the first team after the team’s opening day draw against Lorient, came off the bench at Toulouse FC to score a 62nd-minute penalty which ultimately secured a draw for Luis Enrique’s side.

Reports from Marca maintain that Real Madrid will make a last-ditch swoop for Mbappe at the tail end of the summer window. This is further fuelled by Mbappe himself, considering the fact that he is yet to respond positively to contract talks from PSG.

However, amidst the forward’s contract debacle, teammate Lucas Hernandez has spoken about the importance of Mbappe to the current PSG squad.

The French World Cup winner, who recently completed his transfer from Bayern Munich to the Ligue 1 champions, spoke highly of Mbappe. The defender was quoted by Ligue1.com as saying:

“He’s an extraordinary player, we all know that.

“It’s a pride to be able to play with him, we get along very well. We’re hoping that this year he’ll help us on the pitch because he’s a very, very important player for PSG.”

The 27-year-old also took time to speak about the partnership between Mbappe and new signing Ousmane Dembele.

“Mbappé and Dembélé are world-class players,” he said. “They were both very good and created chances.”
