Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos' possible move to Turkish side, Besiktas, has collapsed - reportedly due to his 'financial requests'.

Ramos is a free agent after his two-year deal with French giants, Paris Saint-Germain, expired this summer. He has been linked with Galatasaray and sides in the MLS and Saudi Pro League.

The 37-year-old centre-back had an injury free 2022/23 season. He made 45 appearances in all competitions, including starting 31 Ligue 1 matches.

He made 13 appearances in all competitions in his first season in France, per Transfermarkt.

After leaving PSG, Ramos was linked with Los Angeles FC, meaning if a deal would've materialised, he would face former foe and teammate, Lionel Messi, who joined Inter Miami a few months ago.

Ramos' transfer to Besiktas collapses

According to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, the club said a deal with Ramos will not happen.

"Deal won’t happen as there’s no chance due to the financial requests."

The Turkish side are reportedly eyeing Arsenal defender, Rob Holding, who has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta. However, Jurrien Timber's injury may see the Englishman remain at the North London club.

Holding has been linked with a move away from the club all summer, and Besiktas are believed to have initiated talks to sign him on.

Besiktas are looking to bolster their defence before the window closes as they look to challenge for the title. They last won the Turkish Super Lig in the 2020/21 campaign, finishing third last season behind Fenerbahce and winners, Galatasaray.

Ramos reveals his preferred destination

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that it is believed Ramos would prefer joining the MLS, with reports hinting at a reunion with Messi at Inter Miami.

He reportedly turned down a contract extension at PSG at the end of last season and has rejected offers from Saudi Arabia and boyhood club, Sevilla.

The former Real Madrid captain won over 30 career titles through 19 years across clubs in Europe but looks set to be moving on to a fresh chapter.
