  • Mason Greenwood is set to depart Manchester United after the club cut ties with him
  • United announced on Monday the striker will not be continuing at Old Trafford
  • Greenwood is not expected to fall short of transfer options

After months of waiting, Mason Greenwood's future at Manchester United has finally been addressed.

Greenwood has been facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford for more than one and a half years when he was suspended by the club.

United suspended the youngster following his arrest in January 2022 to face a string of charges, including coercive behaviours and assault.

However, the Englishman was let off the hook earlier in the year after the prosecution dropped all the charges he was facing.

The development was expected to open the door for Greenwood to return to action, only for United to announce they had instituted a private probe into the matter.

Manchester United dump Greenwood

On Monday, August 21, United announced they had made the decision to part ways with the 21-year-old academy graduate.

In a statement by the club, the Red Devils announced the striker will not be continuing at Old Trafford.

"Manchester United has concluded its internal investigation into the allegations made against Mason Greenwood. Our process commenced in February 2023, following all charges against Mason being dropped," the statement said in part.
"It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome," the statement added.

Greenwood transfer options

The decision taken by United leaves Greenwood with no choice but to begin the hunt for his next club.

As reported by The Sun, the England international is unlikely to fall short of transfer options, with a number of teams said to be queuing for his signature.

The publication claims that several clubs have expressed interest in signing Greenwood.

Sports Brief takes a look at six transfer options for the United ace:

1. Roma

The Italian giants are believed to be the leading contenders for Greenwood's services.

According to talkSPORT, Roma 'would consider' signing Greenwood from United.

Further reports claim that Roma have already contacted the Red Devils over the move.

2. Inter Milan

Roma are bound to face competition from Inter Milan for the services of Greenwood.

Inter are in the market for a prolific striker and could turn to the Englishman.

3. Juventus

Like Inter Milan, Juve are also looking to further reinforce their attack this summer.

The Sun claims that the Old Lady could explore the prospect of signing the Man United outcast.

4. Galatasaray

The Turkish giants have been quite active in the transfer window this summer.

Galatasaray have recruited Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace on a free transfer and Hakim Ziyech on loan from Chelsea.

With familiar faces moving to the Turkish side, Greenwood could be tempted to make the move as well.

5. Al-Ettifaq

A big money move to Saudi Arabia has also been mooted for Greenwood.

Steven Gerrard-tutored Al-Ettifaq are believed to be eyeing the youngster.

Reports claim that the Saudi outfit are in line to offer the forward a £10million-a-year deal.

Man United drop Greenwood shirts

Sports Brief also reported on Man United's decision to drop Greenwood’s shirts from their official kit launch for the 2023/24 season.

This means supporters will not be able to get a shirt with the forward's name on the back after it was omitted from the club launch.

All other names from the Red Devils' senior men's and women's sides are available, but Greenwood is not included among them.
