- The former Brighton midfielder came off the bench and conceded a late penalty
- The Ecuadorian has spoken for the first time on social media since yesterday's game
British record signing, Moises Caicedo, had a debut to forget for his new club, Chelsea, in their 3-1 London derby loss to West Ham at the Olympic Stadium.
The Ecuadorian midfielder chose to move to London despite Liverpool initially agreeing on a higher fee with Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Blues closed the deal at £115m, the highest fee paid by a Premier League club, going above the initial valuation of £100m placed on the player by the Seagulls, as reported by The Athletic.
Though money is not a determinant of performance, as an expensive player, you're expected to hit the ground running, but it was not to be for Caicedo on his debut.
Caicedo breaks silence after debut
The Ecuadorian conceded a late penalty for a foul on Lucas Paqueta while the team was chasing an equaliser, with the Brazilian scoring the spot kick to make the scoreline 3-1.
He was subjected to harsh criticism on social media, particularly by Liverpool fans, whom he rejected, but he appears unfazed though, as he admitted it was a bad day, as communicated on his Instagram page.
"It wasn't the debut that I expected, but I'm happy to get my first minutes with this big club," he wrote.
"We'll keep working hard to put this team where it deserves. Thanks to the fans who are supporting me."
The trio of injured teammates Reece James, Christopher Nkunku and Carney Chukwuemeka cheered him under the post.
The Blues host newly-promoted Luton Town at Stamford Bridge on Friday, for a chance to bounce back.
