Ex Manchester United Goalkeeper Retires Barely 48 Hours After Conceding 5 Goals in One Game

Ben Foster has announced his retirement from football for the second time, just 10 weeks into his one-year deal with Wrexham.

The 40-year-old had initially hung up his gloves in September 2022 but made a dramatic comeback to the game in March to join Wrexham AFC.

He helped The Dragons gain promotion to League Two and went on to sign a one-year deal with the club, owned by Hollywood star, Ryan Reynolds.

However, the former Manchester United shot-stopper has again decided to bow out of the game. He is only 10 weeks into his stint with Wrexham and has played just four games of the new league season.

His last game for the Dragons was one for the books and saw him concede five goals as his side clawed a dramatic 5-5 draw against Swindon on August 19.

"The honest truth is that my performances this season haven't reached the level I demand of myself and I feel that now is the right time to retire," he said in a statement, per The Mirror.

"At the forefront of my mind when making this decision, was not only what was best for me but also the club and making the decision now gives the club every opportunity to assess their options before the window closes. Wrexham will always have a special place in my heart."

According to SportBible, Foster played 12 games in total for Wrexham and was part of the team that won six of those games, keeping two clean sheets in that run.

The goalkeeper, who began his career at Stoke City, famously joined Manc United in 2007 and made his England debut the same year, winning eight caps with the national team.
