FootballEx Manchester United Goalkeeper Retires Barely 48 Hours After Conceding 5 Goals in One Game
- Goalkeeper Ben Foster only lasted five games with his new club Wrexham AFC
- The shot-stopper has ripped up his contract and has called it quits on his career
- This is the second time Foster is retiring after a return to action in March this year
Ben Foster has announced his retirement from football for the second time, just 10 weeks into his one-year deal with Wrexham.
The 40-year-old had initially hung up his gloves in September 2022 but made a dramatic comeback to the game in March to join Wrexham AFC.
He helped The Dragons gain promotion to League Two and went on to sign a one-year deal with the club, owned by Hollywood star, Ryan Reynolds.
However, the former Manchester United shot-stopper has again decided to bow out of the game. He is only 10 weeks into his stint with Wrexham and has played just four games of the new league season.
His last game for the Dragons was one for the books and saw him concede five goals as his side clawed a dramatic 5-5 draw against Swindon on August 19.
"The honest truth is that my performances this season haven't reached the level I demand of myself and I feel that now is the right time to retire," he said in a statement, per The Mirror.
"At the forefront of my mind when making this decision, was not only what was best for me but also the club and making the decision now gives the club every opportunity to assess their options before the window closes. Wrexham will always have a special place in my heart."
According to SportBible, Foster played 12 games in total for Wrexham and was part of the team that won six of those games, keeping two clean sheets in that run.

Walcott on why he rejected Saudi
Sports Brief also reported on Theo Walcott’s retirement and why the former England winger turned down the chance to move to the Saudi Pro League.
Despite receiving several lucrative offers from the country's top flight, Walcott instead decided to retire, citing a desire to experience life outside football.
Speaking on the Overlap Podcast, he admitted to Gary Neville that it was a scary decision because football was all he had known from the age of at least 16.
