Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez, who served a part of his suspension in Sunday’s game against Cadiz, took to the media to speak highly of his players following their stellar performance.

The Catalan club picked up maximum points in front of their home fans at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, with goals from midfielder Pedri and Ferran Torres enough to guide them to their first win of the La Liga season.

The Barcelona coach was filled with special praises for a few players, including Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres. However, the words of the manager to new signing Ilkay Gundogan have caught the attention of many.

Xavi on Gundogan’s performance

Barcelona appeared to be on the brink of another barren draw with barely eight minutes left on the clock; however, a quick combination at the edge of the box was what was needed for the league champions to break a resilient Cadiz defence.

“Gundogan is a cornerstone of the team. He never loses the ball and has the Barça DNA. He makes the difference with the ball and always makes the right decision,” Xavi said, as quoted by Info FCB on Twitter.

Xavi also justified his decision to start 15-year-old Lamine Yamal, who made history by becoming the club’s youngest starting debutant in La Liga while almost coming close to scoring in a strong 85-minute display.

“We see him train, he does a good job, and he can make a difference,” Xavi said, as quoted by Forbes.

Barcelona will now shift their attention to Sunday’s fixture against Villarreal, a side managed by the club’s former coach Quique Setien.

Gundogan names midfield idols

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that Gundogan has named his midfield idols.

The marquee midfielder noted a few names, including Xavi, Andres Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets as his idols in the game.

Barcelona fans will hope the German midfielder’s time at the Spanish club will be reminiscent of his fantastic showings at his former club Manchester City.
