  • Arsenal were among the EPL teams linked with Moises Caicedo
  • However, it was Chelsea who finally won the transfer race for the Ecuadorian
  • Caicedo made his debut for the Blues on Sunday against rivals West Ham

Fans are convinced Arsenal were aiming a dig at Chelsea following Moises Caicedo's nightmare debut for the Blues on Sunday, August 20.

Caicedo, who joined the West Londoners for a British record fee of £115m this summer, pulled on the famous blue shirt against West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Prior to his Stamford Bridge move, the Ecuadorian had been linked with a transfer to other Premier League teams, including Liverpool and Arsenal.

Football London reported at the time that the former Brighton midfielder had courted interest from the Gunners.

So much so that they had bids of £60 million and £70 million for Caicedo rejected during the January transfer window.

Chelsea eventually won the race to prise the 21-year-old from Brighton this summer, with Mauricio Pochettino handing him his debut on Sunday.

However, he endured a nightmare start to life with the Blues as he conceded a penalty after he came on as a substitute for Ben Chilwell.

Arsenal troll Chelsea

The Gunners appeared to mock Chelsea on Twitter with a very well-timed Declan Rice-themed post just after their rival's new £115m signing dropped a clanger on his debut.

The North Londoners posted a picture of the former West Ham captain smiling in his Arsenal training kit and captioned the post with a waving hand.

Fans were quick to note that this could be a direct dig at Chelsea amid the longstanding debate on which club has the best central midfielder in the league.

@ArsenalAnoop observed:

"We know what you did there."

@Ravrmagoat claimed:

"Caicedo owns him."

@Aj8Gooner pointed out:

"Admin thinks we ain't noticing 😭😭😭"

@EbukaMeansGreat added:

"This is Petty and i love it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣"

Chelsea unveil Caicedo with Afrobeat

Sports Brief reported that Chelsea unveiled Moises Caicedo with a Nigerian song from Pheelz and BNXN titled Finesse, and for those who understand, it passed a message.

The song preaches going all out for what you want, even if it means going broke later, and that is what the Blues did. It also connotes not falling in love with who doesn't want you, which could be referring to Liverpool agreeing on a fee with Brighton despite Caicedo preferring Chelsea.
