Lionel Messi became the most decorated player in the history of football after he helped Inter Miami secure the Leagues Cup on August 19.

The legendary forward has enjoyed an incredible start to life since he joined the MLS franchise this summer, scoring in every game he has featured for the Florida-based outfit.

Messi completed a sensational free transfer move to Inter Miami in mid-July after departing Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract with the French giants.

The Barcelona legend seemingly needed no time to settle in with the US team, as he has been an integral part of the club since his arrival and even became captain.

According to talkSPORT, Messi is now the most decorated footballer in the history of the sport after he picked up his first trophy with new side, Inter Miami.

How many trophies has Messi won?

The Leagues Cup was Messi's 44th trophy in his illustrious career spanning close to two decades.

The majority of the Argentine's success came at Barcelona, where he won multiple titles, including 10 La Liga trophies. He also picked up four Champions League crowns, seven Copa Del Reys, eight Spanish Super Cups, three FIFA Club World Cups, and three UEFA Super Cups during his time at Camp Nou.

His stint at PSG saw him win the Ligue 1 title on two occasions and the Trophée de Champions once.

At the international level, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner lifted the FIFA World Cup in 2022, plus the Finalissima, the Copa America, an Olympic gold, and a U20 World Cup title.

Which trophy has Messi not won?

Despite winning almost every available trophy to lift, there is one that Messi has never laid his hands on despite his participation. According to Sportbible, the Argentina international failed to lift the Coupe De France during his time with PSG.

Prior to his move to the French club, the Parisians had won the title six times in seven years. They lost to Nice on penalties in the semi-finals in Messi's first season before being eliminated by rivals, Marseille, in the round of 16 in February this year.

Messi scoops top awards

Sports Brief also reported on Messi getting the top awards in the Leagues Cup.

The Argentine veteran was named the tournament's best player and top scorer.

Messi captured awards after scoring 10 goals for Inter Miami in the competition.
