The president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, has sparked reactions after he was involved in a controversial moment shortly after the Women's World Cup final on Sunday, August 20.
Spain were crowned the world champions following their 1-0 epic win over the Lionesses of England during the final of the tournament.
According to The Guardian, Spain staged a dominant performance to see off a spirited England side to cart home the prestigious trophy.
Olga Carmona was Spain's match heroine, with her superbly worked first-half goal the only difference for the remainder of the tie.
Jennifer Hermoso had a golden chance to double Spain's advantage with 20 minutes left on the clock, only to watch her penalty get saved.
Hermoso's moment with Luis Rubiales
Metro UK reports that Rubiales was involved in a controversial moment with Hermoso shortly after the final, with the football chief spotted kissing the Spain star.
Footage from the incident showed Hermoso preparing for the trophy presentation shortly after she had received her medal before she was grabbed by Rubiales, who went on to plant a kiss on her lips and then patted her on the back.
The Spain international later took to Instagram to express her displeasure.
"Eh, but I didn’t like it," she said when asked about the incident afterwards.
