Inter Miami star Andre Yedlin was gracious to Lionel Messi when he joined by relinquishing the captain armband to him, and the number 10 returned the favour after the Leagues Cup win.
Miami powered to the Leagues Cup final triumph over Nashville SC through penalties. The regular time ended 1-1 before a penalty shootout which involved all 11 of both teams.
Messi put the team ahead in the first half before a goal line scramble in the second half resulted in goalkeeper Drake Callender scoring an own goal. He came crucial in the shootout stopping two attempts.
As noted by BR Football, it was the 44th trophy of Messi's career, surpassing former Barcelona teammate Dani Alves to become the most decorated footballer in history.
Messi's classy gesture to Yedlin
The American right-back passed the captain's armband to Messi on his debut against Cruz Azul and has remained that way since until last night after the win.
As seen in a video shared by MLS official Twitter, the Argentina captain called Yedlin and passed him the armband despite multiple refusals and the 30-year-old screaming no, no.
The pair went to the podium to receive the giant trophy and jointly lifted it in front of their waiting teammates in a show of humility from the 2022 World Cup winner.
