  • Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday, August 19
  • The defeat left Piers Morgan reeling with joy as the controversial TV personality took to social media with a controversial claim
  • Piers took the chance to further his point about Cristiano Ronaldo’s importance to Manchester United

Piers Morgan’s tweet about Manchester United moments after a lowly 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur has gone viral.

The British TV personality took the chance to slam Erik Ten Hag for ‘pushing’ Cristiano Ronaldo out of the club in November 2022, following a well-publicized feud between the two.

Ronaldo famously refused to come on against Tottenham last year as Ten Hag sought to bring him to the game late on in a 2-0 win for the Red Devils.

The 38-year-old would go on to do a controversial interview with Morgan, which proved to be the final nail in the coffin of his Manchester United career.

Nearly a year later, Piers Morgan remains a staunch supporter of Cristiano Ronaldo, and takes every chance he gets to defend the Portuguese superstar, now at Al Nassr.

On Saturday, in the wake of United’s 2-0 defeat, Piers made an interesting comment to rub salt on Manchester United fans’ wounds.

He referenced United’s 3-2 win over Tottenham in March 2022 which secured a 3-2 win over the North Londoners, saying:

“Last time Spurs scored twice against United, a United player scored a brilliant hat-trick to beat them on his own. But he was deemed ‘the problem’ and left, leaving Erik Ten Hag with nobody else to blame.”

Another tweet from Piers read:

"At some point, United fans will wake up from their collective deluded coma and realise Ronaldo was 100% right about Ten Hag. The bloke's a dud."

As reported on BBC Sport, United fell behind early in the second half through Pape Matar Sarr, before an unfortunate own goal by Lisandro Martinez in the 83rd minute confirmed victory.

United will hope to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Nottingham Forest on August 26.

Mount angers Man United fans

Sports Brief also reported on how Mason Mount angered fans with his full time antics after defeat to Tottenham.

Mount was spotted laughing with new Tottenham signing James Maddison at full time, despite a lackluster performance on the day.
