  • Manchester United were condemned to a 2-0 comprehensive defeat by Tottenham Hotspur
  • United created loads of goalscoring opportunities but were unable to convert any of them
  • Pape Matar Sarr's opener for Tottenham and Lisandro Martinez's own goal earned Spurs the win

Andre Onana and Erik ten Hag have appeared to fault Manchester United's attack after their 2-0 humiliation at the hands of Tottenham Hotspurs.

The Red Devils were far from good in their second game of the new Premier League season, played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, August 19.

United went into the match off a positive start to the campaign following their 1-0 unconvincing win over Wolves in their season opener last week.

Ten Hag's charges were looking to build on the momentum when they faced Spurs on Saturday but were unable to leave a mark during the tie.

According to The Sun, Pape Matar Sarr's opener for Tottenham and Lisandro Martinez's own goal was enough to earn the north Londoners a deserved win.

Onana, Ten Hag blame attack

While Onana and Ten Hag felt that they performed pretty well in the defeat to Tottenham, they have appeared to lay the blame on the players that missed chances to score during the match.

Metro UK reports Ten Hag’s side created chances throughout the game but were kept at bay by Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who made good saves to deny the likes of Marcus Rashford and Casemiro.

However, Onana and Ten Hag contend the result could have been different had United utilised their chances.

"I don’t think they were better than us, we made some mistakes second half but football is not about one half. We started well, created chances but unfortunately we didn’t score. If we scored, it would be a different game," Onana said.

On his part, Ten Hag noted:

"I liked the first half, a very good performance but we have to score. We created good chances, really good press and had many chances to score."

Bruno with miss of the season

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Bruno Fernandes has become a big talking point following his 'miss of the season' during Manchester United's Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur.

While United were below par during the match by their standards, they were left ruing missed goalscoring chances during the tie.

Fernandes had a golden opportunity to get the Red Devils back into the game, only for the Portuguese skipper to fluff the chance.
