  • Manchester United were condemned to a 2-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday
  • Despite United's poor performance, they were left ruing their missed chances in the match
  • Fernandes produced a potential 'miss of the season' in the 36th minute of the match

Bruno Fernandes has become a big talking point following his 'miss of the season' during Manchester United's Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur.

The two English giants faced off on Saturday, August 19, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the capital.

United were looking to build on their 1-0 unconvincing win over Wolves in their season opener played at Old Trafford last week.

However, Erik ten Hag's charges were completely outplayed by the north Londoners as they fell to a 2-0 embarrassing defeat.

According to Metro UK, Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring for Spurs before Lisandro Martinez directed the ball into his own net to earn the hosts a deserved win.

While United were below par during the match by their standards, they were left ruing missed goalscoring chances during the tie.

Fernandes had a golden opportunity to get the Red Devils back into the game, only for the Portuguese skipper to fluff the chance.

A video doing rounds on social media shows the midfielder beating the Spurs' offside trap to get on the end of Luke Shaw's cross.

However, despite having the freedom of the penalty area, the Man United captain somehow conspired to balloon his header miles over the target, sparking reactions from fans online.

The Old Trafford dwellers will be hoping to get their campaign back on track when they take on Nottingham Forest on Saturday, August 26.

Ten Hag, Onana lays blame on attack

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Andre Onana and Erik ten Hag have appeared to fault Manchester United's attack after their 2-0 humiliation at the hands of Tottenham Hotspurs.

The Red Devils were far from good in their second game of the new Premier League season, played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, August 19.

While Onana and Ten Hag felt that they performed pretty well in the defeat to Tottenham, they laid the blame on the players that missed chances to score during the match.
