Mason Mount was a trending topic on social media for all the wrong reasons on Saturday, August 19 after Manchester United fell to a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils went into the game seeking to make it two straight wins after scuffing out a 1-0 win against Wolves in their opener five days earlier.

In a game that was at times chaotic, both sides created chances in the first half and while United were guilty of some tameness in front of goal, the home side were unlucky to hit the post twice in 10 seconds late in the first half through Pedro Porro and a deflection from Luke Shaw.

Tottenham, under a new era in the absence of Harry Kane, eventually took the lead through Pape Matar Sarr, who drilled a shot high into the net from close range, as cited on BBC.

On 83 minutes, Spurs made it 2-0 as Ivan Perisic's cross went in via Lisandro Martinez for an own goal after taking a touch off Ben Davies.

As the game clocked full time, Manchester United fans had the same observation as many felt the midfield was lacking.
