Mohamed Salah achieved a unique milestone with his goal for Liverpool against Bournemouth on Saturday, August 19 as he climbed up the charts in the club’s all-time top goal scorers’ list.
Liverpool went into the game looking for their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in their opening league game.
Jurgen Klopp’s men got off to the worst possible start as they were behind just three minutes into the game as the visitors took a shock lead through Antoine Semenyo.
The Reds were however back in the game through Luis Diaz who flicked a low cross from Diogo Jota before expertly swiveling it to the back of the net.
Liverpool had the chance to take the lead after Dominik Szoboszlai went down on the box after a challenge from Joe Rothwell..
Up stepped Salah, who slotted in his ninth goal against Bournemouth in his career from a rebound after Neto saved his spot-kick.
Salah overtakes Gerrard
The goal came as a huge relief for Liverpool fans at Anfield, but it also bore some personal significance to Salah, who is now fifth in the club’s list of all-time goal scorers.
Prior to his goal, the Egyptian was tied with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard on 186 goals, although he made nearly half the appearances the England international made.
Salah’s will hope to keep banging in the goals to reach and possibly overtake fourth-placed Billy Liddel, who currently has 228 goals.
