FootballBayern Munich Makes Transfer Decision on Defender After Bundesliga Victory
- Benjamin Pavard’s future has been up in the air through the transfer window
- The defender has been linked to a move away from the Bundesliga giant
- Bayern Munich have made a decision about the World Cup winner’s immediate future
Bayern Munich kicked off their 2023/24 Bundesliga season with a stellar win against Werder Bremen, howbeit without the service of defender Benjamin Pavard.
The French defender who has been a centre of transfer attraction, was surprisingly left on the bench and eventually was an unused sub.
Thomas Tuchel's decision to keep Pavard as an unused substitute added momentum to discussions surrounding his immediate future, particularly in light of the club’s recent offer from Inter Milan for the World Cup winner.
However, in the unlikeliest fashion, Pavard looks set to continue at the Allianz Arena this season despite entering the final year of his contract.
Pavard to stay at Bayern
Initially, Sky Sports Germany indicated the possibility of the defender's departure from the club. However, just hours after the conclusion of the game, the Bavarian club revealed their decision not to sell the 27-year-old player.
Florian Plettenberg reported that the club has chosen to retain the services of the defender. While reports from Transfermarkt suggest that the former Stuttgart player is in the final year of his contract, it's uncertain whether the club can successfully persuade Pavard and his representative to commit to a new agreement.
Pavard remains discontented with the club after an informal agreement made back in May, during the final days of former sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić's tenure, which had indicated the club's willingness to let him depart.
However, despite the interest from both Manchester United and Inter, no formal offers have materialized for the French player. With the transfer window set to close in a few days, it remains to be seen whether Bayern would reconsider their decision.

FootballBayern call off De Gea deal
Sports Brief previously reported David de Gea’s hunt for a new club continues as Bayern Munich have pulled out of the race to sign the former Manchester United goalkeeper this summer.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper was released by the Red Devils after 12 years at the club following the acquisition of Andre Onana from Inter Milan for a fee of £48 million.
Bayern are instead expected to sign Daniel Peretz from Maccabi Tel Aviv to solve their goalkeeping woes, with Yann Sommer off to Inter Milan and Manuel Neuer still out injured.
