- Maguire was on the verge of moving to East London, but it emerged that he never had discussions with David Moyes
- The centre back is now set to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the squad
Erik Ten Hag had a concise answer when asked whether Harry Maguire had a future at Old Trafford following a botched move to West Ham.
The embattled centre back has had a whirlwind last few months that saw him stripped off captaincy and fall down the pecking order under Ten Hag last season.
Last week, West Ham reportedly agreed a fee of £30m to sign the defender, only for talks to stall amid Maguire’s unwillingness to move to the East London club.
A source was since quoted by Sky Sports speaking on the Maguire situation, saying:
"Harry respects West Ham and David Moyes, but to be clear there was never an agreement in place between Harry and West Ham.
Moyes grew tired of waiting for the move to materialize and ultimately decided against signing the 30-year old, who is set to remain at Old Trafford as United also failed to sign a potential replacement.
Ten Hag’s take
Ahead of United’s crunch game against Tottenham, Erik Ten hag spoke on the Maguire situation where he disclosed the chances of the defender getting integrated back into the team.
"It's up to him. He knows what I expect from him. I've been here for one year now and you know what I expect from a centre-half.” Ten Hag said, per The Sun.
"And he can do it, I've told you many times before he has the ability to do it so now he has to show it.
