The 26-year-old transferred from the Camp Nou in the unlikeliest of manners for a fee in the region of ₤50 million, and has taken up a new jersey number at his new club.
The French champions took to their official Twitter account to announce their new signing will be taking up the number 10 jersey previously donned by now-Al-Hilal forward Neymar Jr.
Dembele had initially opted for the number 26 jersey; however, the departure of the Brazilian superstar saw his jersey number changed.
Dembele's unceremonious Barcelona exit
The French World Cup winner consistently divided opinions among Barcelona fans since his arrival at the club from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017.
Dembele’s time at the club was hampered by a series of injuries, hence he could only muster a total of 40 goals in his 186 competitive appearances, despite the hype surrounding his arrival in Spain.
The extended period of time that the French player spent on the sidelines resulted in fans openly urging the Catalan team not to extend his contract during the summer of 2021.
Nevertheless, Barcelona’s coach, Xavi Hernandez, stood by Dembele, and the offensive player was awarded a three-year contract extension.
Entering the final year of his contract, the forward made clear his intention to continue at the Spanish club on a few occasions. However, barely a month after his statement, Dembele was unveiled as a player of French Club PSG. The forward’s act has left Barcelona fans with a bitter taste in their mouths, given their ailing finances, which has limited their ability to compete for marquee players across Europe.
