The 22-year-old in his most recent interview with Brazilian outlet ge.globo, spoke highly of his admiration for Los Blancos and a host of things he has experienced through his professional career.

Rodrygo on choosing Real Madrid

The former Santos forward who ranks among the list of football’s most expensive teenage stars per reports from football transfers, revealed he had a verbal agreement with Barcelona, with the club already in advanced negotiations with his former club Santos, and that his father was eager for him to sign with the Catalan side. However, the young forward had other plans in mind.

“It was practically all going right with Barcelona, all that was left was to sign, and I asked my father: “Nothing from Real Madrid?
There were proposals from all the teams and nothing from Real. Then, I asked to wait for the weekend because we would have a game.
I went to the game and scored three goals, I gave an assist, we won 5-2; and during the game, Real Madrid called my father and didn’t even have to make the proposal.
They just asked if I wanted to go, and my father already knew my answer.”
“The next day, I was off, playing video games, I was with my mother and my father left in the morning without saying anything.
In the late afternoon, he arrived in Santos, entered the house, passed me and my mother at the table without talking to anyone.
He went straight to my room and had a Madrid and a Barcelona shirt. He had already travelled to Barcelona’s facilities. He took both shirts, threw them on me and said, “Now, you choose.” I didn’t understand, but I had nothing to think about, it was Real Madrid.”

Rodrygo, backed by many to lead Real Madrid’s attack this season following the departure of Karim Benzema, has scored 38 times for the club so far, including the team’s season opener against Athletic Club.

Rodrygo names his football idol

Sports Brief in a previous report stated that Brazilian superstar Rodrygo has named his footballing idol.

The forward expressed his preference for Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Messi and Ronaldo have been the reigning stars of the football world for more than 15 years. Between them, the pair has clinched an astounding total of 12 Ballon d’Or awards.
