City finished the campaign top to cart home the Premier League title ahead of Arsenal, who had dominated the standings for the better part of the season.

The Gunners eventually settled for a second-place finish, with Manchester United and Newcastle United finishing third and fourth, respectively.

PFA award nominees

Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland headline the six-man shortlist of nominees for the PFA Player of the Year Award.

Youngster John Stones has also been nominated.

According to The Sun, the Gunners received two nominations in the shape of Bukayo Saka and captain Martin Odegaard.

Meanwhile, Tottenham legend Harry Kane, who recently departed the club for Bayern Munich, completes the six-man list.

However, the shortlist has not gone down well with a section of fans, with many contending that City ace, Rodri, should have made the cut.

@Theoladeledada sarcastically posed:

"Rodri plays Ice hockey?"

@viqforlan observed:

"Rodri should be here over Stones."

@WestHam_Central concluded:

"Rodri robbed tbh."

@konaldo7_ wondered:

"Why does Rodri keep getting snubbed."

Another posted:

"Where is Rodri, and if Kane is there, so should Rashford! He Had the goals."

De Bruyne gifts teammates

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Kevin De Bruyne was named Manchester City's new captain after the departure of Ilkay Gundogan, and he is already showing his leadership skills with a special gift to his teammates.

According to reports, the Belgian gave out custom-made iPhones to the 24-man squad that won the treble last season, as well as manager Pep Guardiola and owner Sheikh Mansour. He made the special gesture during a get-together ahead of their season opener against Burnley.
