Barcelona Players Unmoved by Kylian Mbappe’s Potential Transfer to Real Madrid
FootballHow Kylian Mbappe’s Return Can Lift PSG’s New Team to Champions League Glory
- Kylian Mbappe is the main star of the new-look Paris Saint-Germain squad
- The Ligue 1 champions have been busy revamping their squad over the summer
- PSG are yet to win the Champions League but have reached the final once
Paris Saint-Germain have had a near-success syndrome in the UEFA Champions League but all that looks to be shattered with the new-look team led by Kylian Mbappe.
PSG have spent the last ten years failing in Europe’s top club competition, owing to poorly-constructed squads, the weight of expectation from the board and their fans, and, at times, terrible luck.
According to GOAL, the Parisians lost in the Champions League final in 2020 and again in the semi-finals the following year. Quarter-final exits, while not ideal, are also not to be overlooked.
The goal for Luis Enrique will be to conquer the rest of Europe for once, as winning Ligue 1 will not count as much success for PSG, who have dominated the local league for far too long.
With the 2023/24 season set for new drama, PSG will be one of the teams with an outside chance to dethrone Manchester City for the Champions League title this season, and Mbappe will have to play a huge role for that to happen.
Mbappe's return is good for PSG
PSG, without Kylian Mbappe, looks like a team bereft of ideas, as seen in the club’s first Ligue 1 game against Lorient last weekend after they were held to a goalless draw.
The 24-year-old forward had been exiled from their first team following his refusal to extend his contract with the club, prompting PSG’s hierarchy to put him up for sale.
Real Madrid and Al Hilal attempted to sign the forward this summer, but Mbappe is insistent on seeing out the rest of his contract with the French champions, which runs out in 2024.
After the goalless draw against Lorient, Mbappe has now been reinstated into the PSG first team, meaning he will be available for selection in subsequent games for the Parisians, Daily Mirror reports.

How can PSG win UCL?
PSG have been boosted this summer with smart signings, the hiring of tactically-adept managers, and unbridled optimism ahead of the season.
The club appears to have prepared their 2023/24 roster with the idea that they would have to cope without their top player Mbappe, but his return provides them with a major edge.
The Parisians strengthened their attack with the additions of Marco Asensio, Ousmane Dembele, Lee Kang-In, and Goncalo Ramos. Manuel Ugarte has been brought in as a midfielder.
Milan Skriniar has joined the team at the back, and he could be the best value for money acquisition of the summer window if he can regain his old form.
With Mbappe in the starting lineup, PSG transforms from a promising to a great team — a good side with a razor-sharp edge up front to provide the goals, making them real Champions League title challengers.

PSG recall Mbappe to team
Earlier, Sports Brief reported Paris Saint-Germain swiftly reversed their decision to exclude Mbappe from their first-team roster.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 13, the club disclosed that the 24-year-old has been reintegrated into the squad following productive discussions.
Throughout the summer, Mbappe and PSG have been embroiled in a standoff after he formally communicated his intention not to extend his existing contract beyond this season.
