  • Andre Onana made his Premier League bow for Manchester United against Wolves on Monday night
  • The Cameroonian was involved in a controversial moment during the tie after he clattered an opponent in the area
  • Away from that incident, Onana had an all-around good game, keeping a clean sheet as United secured a 1-0 win

Andre Onana's amazing stats from his Premier League debut for Manchester United have gone viral.

The Cameroonian joined United this summer from Inter Milan to replace David de Gea, who departed the club recently after 12 years.

Onana was part of the starting XI during United's Premier League opener against Wolves on Monday night, with the shotstopper playing a central role in the clash.

While the Red Devils were largely underwhelming, the former Ajax star emerged as the shining light in the game, thanks to his performance.

This is despite the goalkeeper being involved in a hugely controversial moment deep in the second half by clattering Wolves debutant Sasa Kalajdzic in the area.

According to ESPN, the incident, which warranted a penalty was overlooked by the centre referee despite a VAR check.

Onana's stats vs Wolves

Be that as it may, Onana was still able to keep a clean sheet, with stats from the debut all but proving he is the man United have been looking for.

The Sun reports that the shotstopper completed an impressive 38 passes during the match, with only David Raya averaging more than 38 passes per game while playing for Brentford last season.

The Spaniard, who has since joined Arsenal, completed an average of 38.8 passes during the 2022-23 campaign, with De Dea managing just 28.5 per game.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez managed 34.7 passes, with Alisson Becker, Bern Leno, and Jason Steele completing the top five podium.

Going by this key element, Onana is likely to be viewed as an upgrade to De Gea.

Ten Hag is understood to have been eager o upgrade on De Gea - specifically due to the Spaniard's inability to adequately play out from the back.

Referee's body apologises to Wolves coach

Sports Brief reported that coach, Gary O'Neill revealed he received an apology from the referee's body for what was deemed to have been a blatant penalty on Onana.

The coach, who only took the Wolves job a few days earlier, was yellow-carded for complaining as officials continue to clamp down on protests by players and managers.

Despite keeping a clean sheet during the clash, the new United goalkeeper was crashed into opposition striker, Kalajdzic, with his actions somehow not penalised.
