Barcelona’s 2023/24 La Liga opening fixture against Getafe has got several individuals, including players and coaches of both clubs, up in arms.
After putting on a display described by many as a ‘show of shame’, the animosity between both teams on the night is still apparent. The latest to air his feelings is Getafe’s first-choice goalkeeper, David Soria.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has taken aim at Barcelona’s coach Xavi Hernandez after the 43-year-old blamed the official for his side's performance on the night.

The former Sevilla goalkeeper claimed that Barcelona are constantly out on the look for an excuse. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he said:
"Last year, it was the grass and the sun, now the referee.
"They always have an excuse. We can’t allow them to come to our stadium and let them play calmly. We can’t play like them, but we have other qualities," Soria said.
The Getafe star added to the accusations of time-wasting:
"Araujo lay on the ground for five minutes to have a play reviewed by the VAR, but nobody talks about that."
The game on Sunday was dubbed as 'a disgrace', per reports from Sport. It saw the centre referee call over 35 fouls and issue over 13 cards, including two red cards, during what was indeed an aggressive and intensely physical battle.
