FootballRonaldo’s Al Nassr Teammate Trolled For Hilarious Mistake As Club Falls to Defeat
- Al-Nassr kicked off their Saudi Pro League campaign against Al-Ettifaq
- The Arab Club Champions Cup winners lost against Steven Gerrard’s side
- A teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo made an error that led to trolling by fans
Cristiano Ronaldo's unexpected move to Al-Nassr during the winter transfer window thrust Saudi Arabian football into the limelight.
Since the Portuguese veteran completed his move, a truckload of top stars across Europe have since opted for the Saudi Pro League over other top flight leagues, with the latest reported to be Neymar Junior.
Having some of Europe's elite concentrated in a region will undoubtedly attract the spotlight and sadly for a teammate of Ronaldo, Nawaf Al-Aqidi, he was the subject of trolls after his mistake contributed to Luis Castro’s team losing their first game of the opening season against Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.
Nawaf Alaqidi's costly mistake for Al-Nassr
Al-Nassr lost their league season's opening game after goals from former Lyon star, Moussa Dembele, and Sweden’s Robin Quaison, who cancelled out the early goal scored by stand-in captain, Sadio Mane.
Despite the Knights of Najd fielding a weakened side after the Arab Club Champions Cup final just days earlier, they secured an early lead and put on an impressive showing until a bizarre moment from Al-Aqidi.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper spilt the ball following a cross from a corner, presenting Robin Quaison with perhaps one of the easiest goals he would ever score.
Fans have subsequently turned to Twitter to share their reactions after the goalkeeper's mistake:
Per reports from Goal, Al-Nassr will hope to get their season back on track by bouncing back in their next game against Al-Taawoun.
The Riyadh-based side will also hope that Ronaldo is ready for the fixture on Friday.

FootballSports Brief also reported on former Bayern forward, Mane breaking his goal-scoring duck for Al-Nassr after he notched a goal against Al-Ettifaq on his Saudi Pro League debut.
The Senegalese star, who moved to Saudi Arabia after a disappointing season in Germany, needed just four minutes to find the back of the net in his first league match for his team.
