  • Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia have both chosen Chelsea over Liverpool
  • Caicedo's transfer is already official, with Lavia's expected to be completed imminently
  • Guinness World Record chimed in on the social media banter between the two sets of fans

Liverpool and their fans have recently found themselves on the receiving end of social media trolls after none of their transfer plans seems to be going to plan.

The club stepped up their efforts of signing a new defensive midfielder after the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. Thiago Alcantara, who can equally play in a similar position, has had fitness issues since he moved to Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp's side identified Moises Caicedo and Southampton's Romeo Lavia as their possible targets. Chelsea were heavily interested in the former and have been interlocked in negotiations since the start of the transfer window.

How Caicedo rejected Liverpool

In a brazen attempt to steal Caicedo right under Chelsea's noses, the Reds agreed terms with the Seagulls for the transfer of the Ecuadorian. Just to prove how serious they were, they were willing to break their transfer record fee. Klopp later admitted in a press conference that the move was almost done.

But in a quick turn of events, Caicedo declined to join Liverpool and instead elected to wait for Chelsea to make an improved bid. The West London club finally came through for the 21-year-old, making him the most expensive Premier League player of all time.

Romeo Lavia deal

Liverpool quickly dusted themselves, picked themselves up and returned to South Coast in a bid to get Lavia to sign for them. They were understood to be the leading candidates to get the Belgian all summer.

But deja vu struck again after the 19-year-old refused to move to the North West and instead chose to move to West London. Transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano, confirmed that it is only a matter of time for the deal to go through after the Saints and the Blues agreed on a fee.

Chelsea 2, Liverpool 0.

It is against this backdrop that Chelsea fans have been having a field day against their Liverpool counterparts. The official X account of the Guinness World Records couldn't resist the temptation to chime in.

A Chelsea fan account, CFCDubois, wrote;

"Liverpool are breaking the Guinness World Record for most rejections in a transfer window."

To which GWR's account cheekily replied with the 'lol' phrase. LOL is an acronym for laughing out loud.

Well, you can't deny that there has been a lot of laughing and happiness for Chelsea fans in the past few days.

Caicedo's unveiling video

In his unveiling video, Sports Brief reported that Caicedo was seen hugging his mum, who sat in the boot of a car, reminiscent of a picture of him as a young boy wearing a Chelsea shirt.

In the background of the video was a viral song by Nigerian artists Pheelz and BNXN, Finesse - a song which connotes going all out for what you want regardless of what it costs.

It exemplifies Chelsea going out of their way to beat a late hijack attempt by Liverpool.
