  • Harry Maguire has been linked with a possible Old Trafford exit this summer
  • West Ham United are understood to be on the verge of signing the embattled centre-back
  • However, Maguire is believed to be demanding a massive payout before he seals the transfer

Harry Maguire's proposed summer move to West Ham United is hanging in the balance, with the defender reportedly demanding a huge payout of £15 million to quit the club.

The embattled centre-back has been staring at an uncertain future with the Red Devils for weeks now after it became apparent he would not be part of Erik ten Hag's plans for this season.

Ten Hag has appeared to prefer the partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at the heart of his defence, leaving Maguire warming the bench.

The Dutchman's decision to axe the 30-year-old as United's skipper further cast doubt on the Englishman's future at Old Trafford.

West Ham are believed to be on course to signing the former Leicester City defender, with Sky Sports reporting that the Hammers have agreed a deal in principle with United over the transfer of Maguire.

Maguire demanding huge payout

However, the deal is now hanging in the balance, with reports claiming the England international wants a £15million pay-off from Manchester United to join West Ham.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils had offered Maguire a £6m payment to quit.

But the former captain is said to be holding out for double that figure as he is facing a wage cut once he joins West Ham.

Maguire, who is on a £190,000 a week, will see his salary reduced to £120,000 once he completes the move to the London club.

The defender has two years left of his current deal at the Theatre of Dreams, which would be worth £19.7million.

Maguire's 7 memorable moments

Two that stand out and the player won't forget in a hurry are being the world's most expensive defender and having the honour of captaining one of England's biggest clubs.
