According to The Mirror, the Blues had made Caicedo their primary transfer target and have been trying to seal a deal for his services all summer.

However, Liverpool appeared on course to snap up the Ecuadorian from their jaws after submitting a £111 million offer prior to Sunday's Premier League cracker between the two sides.

Chelsea found themselves back in the Caicedo transfer race after the midfielder indicated he had no appetite to discuss a move to Anfield.

The west Londoners eventually landed their man in a record-breaking £115 million deal.

Chelsea trolls Liverpool after Caicedo deal

The Stamford Bridge dwellers have since taken to social media to mock Liverpool after they beat them to the signing of Caicedo.

The 2021 Champions League winners made a mischievous tweet directed at the Merseysiders with the caption: "It's only ever been Chelsea".

Caicedo also went on to declare his love for Chelsea, insisting he was happy to complete the move.

"I am so happy to join Chelsea! I am so excited to be here at this big club and I didn’t have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club. It’s a dream come true to be here and I can’t wait to get started with the team," he told Chelseafc.com.

Caicedo's unveiling video

In his unveiling video, Sports Brief reported that Caicedo was seen hugging his mum, who sat in the boot of a car, reminiscent of a picture of him as a young boy wearing a Chelsea shirt.

In the background of the video was a viral song by Nigerian artists Pheelz and BNXN, Finesse - a song which connotes going all out for what you want regardless of what it costs.

It exemplifies Chelsea going out of their way to beat a late hijack attempt by Liverpool.
