The 2023/24 Premier League campaign officially kicked off on August 11 with title-holders, Manchester City, raising the curtain on the season with a clash against Burnley.
The Citizens showed no signs of rust during the tie as they demolished the newly-promoted side 3-0, thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland and Rodri's second-half goal.
The biggest scoreline from the weekend was courtesy of Newcastle United, who demolished Aston Villa 5-1 on August 12.
The weekend also saw newly-promoted sides, Luton Town and Sheffield United, have a taste of top flight football. However, none of them were able to make an impression, with Luton getting a 4-1 demolition from Brighton.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur - who recently lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich - had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Brentford away from home, per The Guardian.
How the EPL table looks
Collectively, six wins were recorded from matchweek one, pending Manchester United's match against Wolves on Monday night.
Three other fixtures ended in draws, with Chelsea's 1-1 stalemate with Liverpool the standout result.
According to Sky Sports, Luis Diaz opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 17th minute, only for the goal to be cancelled out by new signing, Axel Disasi, moments before the break.
Newcastle's huge win over Aston Villa has them topping the standings on goal difference, with Brighton, Man City, Arsenal, and Crystal Palace completing the top five podium.
Luton Town, Burnley, and Aston Villa currently occupy the three relegation spots.
Man United will be keen to send a Premier League title statement when they host Wolves at Old Trafford in the final round of matchweek 1.
