- Nemanja Matic is set to leave AS Roma after falling out with Jose Mourinho
- Matic will sign for French club Rennes after spending only one season in Italy
- The veteran midfielder has worked under Mourinho for three different clubs
Jose Mourinho's relationship with Nemanja Matic has reportedly reached a point of no return, with the midfielder closing in on an exit from AS Roma.
Matic only joined Roma last summer on a free transfer from Manchester United but is now set for a sensational move to Ligue 1 side Rennes.
The Mirror reports that the relationship between the two has broken down with tension reported in training sessions. The retired Serbian midfielder is said to have contacted Rennes without Roma's knowledge.
Matic was first signed by Mourinho for Chelsea in 2013 before signing him for Manchester United in 2017. He signed the holding midfielder for a third time in his career last year. The 35-year-old played an integral part in Roma's campaign that saw them reach the Europa League final before losing to Sevilla.
Roma Press adds that Mourinho felt betrayed by Matic's attitude in training before excluding him completely from first-team training sessions. He is now set to leave the club for a fee of around 3 million euros.
Mourinho will be taking charge of his third season in Rome with the Giallarossi opening their campaign against Salernitana on August 20. The club has already roped in Houssem Aouar from Lyon, with a deal for Leandro Paredes in the works as well.
Mourinho's hilarious farewll message
Sports Brief previously reported that Mourinho won the internet with a hilarious farewell message to one of his players, who has agreed on a deal to move to Saudi Arabia.
Roger Ibanez is set to depart the Italian capital after three years, with reports claiming he will join Al-Ahli.
The 24-year-old leaves after playing 149 times for Roma and the Italian giants are set to make a considerable profit in the transfer as they only acquired him for €9M from Atalanta in 2019.
