  • Football fans believe that Mamelodi Sundowns are benefitting from some close calls this season
  • Pete Shalulile's assist against Chiefs has been called into question by some fans of opposition sides
  • Themba Zwane's goal has become a sore point in local football as many believed he was offside

Are Mamelodi Sundowns benefitting from dubious decisions?

That’s the view of many fans who believe that the Sundowns are winning games because they are getting the benefit of the doubt in crucial decisions.

The club have been trending on social media after Peter Shalulile’s assist against Kaizer Chiefs in the week and then again after Themba Zwane scored against Moroka Swallows.

Shalulile assisted Lucas Costa’s goal from an offside position, while Zwane’s MTN 8 goal caused controversy as well, as many believed he was offside before scoring.

Sundowns went on to win that game 1-0 thanks to that goal, Sowetan LIVE reported.

With the goal being the winner in the clash, many have accused Sundowns of winning thanks to their influence, while others have argued that the goal was legal according to the new offside rules.

Others believe VAR should be implemented to stop Sundowns getting away with such decisions.

Here's what social media had to say about the decision:

@Simon_Pela:

“Sundowns benefitting from an offside goal…bring that VAR already cos this is not fair.”

@bakubaku87:

“We need VAR in our football here in SA, what kind of an offside goal did Sundowns score again in 2 consecutive matches.”

@Mapentle3:

“Beneficiary FC benefits again, red card and an offside goal. Last week was the same thing, offside goal and Chiefs denied a clear penalty.”

@aemanuel12:

“Looks like Sundowns is good at scoring offside goals. Or this is how they’ll benefit this season?”

@lettucemtititi:

“The new offside rule which people are talking about doesn't apply in the PSL...haven't been adopted ....people mustn't hide being that rule....this is a clear offside....not even tight.”

Zwane carded before game starts

If you think you have seen everything in football, think again.

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane has been involved in one of the strangest moments in football, as he was penalised before time was even on the clock, Sports Brief reported.

The incident happened before the MTN8 game between Sundowns and Moroka Swallows. Zwane was in the centre circle waiting to kick off when the referee came up to him and showed him the yellow card.
