  • Ousmane Dembele recently completed his transfer to Paris Saint Germain
  • The attacker’s agent and Barcelona are at loggerheads over the forward’s transfer fee
  • Dembele’s agent is reported to be contemplating suing the La Liga champions

Ousmane Dembele may officially be a player of Paris Saint Germain but Barcelona have surely not heard the last of their former number seven.

Dembele’s move to French club PSG was made official in the early hours of Saturday morning after following the successful completion of his medical assessments and the necessary paperwork. The transfer deal, which surprised many within the Barcelona hierarchy, amounted to approximately ₤50.4 million. As part of this deal, Dembele and his agent were entitled to a portion of the transfer fee.

However, according to reports from Barcelona Universal, the Spanish club hasn't fulfilled their part of the agreement. This alleged breach of contract has reportedly caused frustration for Dembele's agent, Mousa Sissoko, who could be exploring the option of filing a lawsuit against the Spanish champions.

Dembele agent to sue Barcelona

Barcelona's reluctance to fulfil what is believed to constitute a portion of the forward's transfer payment to the agent seems to be connected to the content of the club's official statement.

The statement posted by the club on its official website reads:

“FC Barcelona and the player Ousmane Dembélé have been separated from their relationship by virtue of the player’s unilateral exercise of a right included in his employment contract.
“The Club, in strict compliance with the agreement, has not negotiated or agreed with third parties the terms of this disassociation.”

Per reports from Mundo Deportivo, this statement translates to Barcelona interpreting the private contract they had with Dembele to mean that they only had to pay part of the transfer to the player, who was contracted with the club, but not to his agent, whom the club dubs as an external party.

Hence, the Catalan club agreed to pay ₤15 million of the ₤50.4 million transfer fee received from PSG to Dembele, while holding on to the remaining ₤35.4 million, leaving Dembele’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, with nothing.

Dembele's agent disagrees with the way the Blaugrana have interpreted the contract and is considering the option of taking legal action against the club regarding the distribution of the transfer fees.

Dembele’s final words to Xavi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Ousmane Dembele has revealed there were other factors that forced his decision to leave Barcelona as he inches closer to finalising his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 26-year-old reportedly had a heartfelt conversation with Xavi, explaining the Catalans' manager was not the reason why he chose to return home and join PSG rather than remain in Spain.

Dembele revealed to Xavi that he wanted to continue at Barcelona but felt like the environment around him was not healthy for him.
